Gis a clue boys and girls please for Daughter. Local independent dealer with a good reputation in all areas of his business. It is a Trade in from another dealer. 4 good boots, few marks as expected. Haven't been inside yet or under the bonnet. 1.4 or 1.6 I guess, but from a practical POV that is a little academic. 64k recorded.

If it's a 16v. it's more likely a 1.6 or 1.8.

It's up for nearly £1300 with 90k I think. I see it from Parkers being in the region of 900+ Any thoughts anyone?

There are plenty of newer models with less mileage on autotrader , seems a bit overpriced. You could have a Focus for that price and it's a vastly superior motor.
At this price you won't get a warranty , so why pay a premium to buy it off a dealer.

Maybe no warranty but legal protection as stated here:-
During the first six months:
The consumer returns the goods in the first six months from the date of sale and requests a repair or replacement or a partial refund. In that case, the consumer does not have to prove the goods were faulty at the time of sale. It is assumed that they were. If the retailer does not agree, it is for the retailer to prove that the goods were satisfactory at the time of sale. This comes from Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002, derived from EU Directive 1999/44/EU which became Clauses 48A to 48F inclusive of the Sale of Goods act in April 2003.
The one you are looking appears over-priced, to me.

I know they have to start somewhere and I would not wish to pay more than .9 if push comes to shove. I know a few people who have bought cars from this front and although it may sound naive he doesn't put a warranty on if you live very locally. He just puts things right if they go wrong within 3 months and a major failure outside this was also picked up. If you think about it, it is all a gamble, but I actually think the guy has brains. Hadn't given the Focus thing a thought.
A focus for this kid of money you say?

There are 2 Focuses on Autotrader.co.uk for under £1400 with lower miles than the Escort you are looking at, both have service history . Having used both cars fairly regularly the Focus is in a different league.

What is the law regarding dealers and warranties? A separate dealer has said that he will NOT warranty anything under a grand. I understand this position, but what do the men in grey suits say?
