Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster!
Anyway, couple of questions:
My 96 Laguna wouldn't start this evening, no tick over, nothing. The battery seems fine, all lights work, and it wouldn't jump start from a colleague's car. So does anyone have an idea of what has suddenly stopped working?
Second question, i don't have current breakdown cover - so has anyone bought cover (Tesco seem cheapest) the night before, then phoned them up the next day to get someone out to fix their car?
Thanks :-)

I've had this happen on a couple of Renaults. One a Megane, the other an Espace 2.0i.
There was a spade terminal to the starter motor which had come adrift. Squeezed up the spade connector gently with pliers, pushed it back on and hey presto!
May be what has happened with yours.
Worth a look.

Or whack it with a hammer while someone else turns the key......

You weren't far wrong! A colleague and I checked to see if the starter motor had jammed, hit it with socket set handle using a hammer and the car sprang to life!

Now fit another starter. The brushes are shot.

Well at £175+ for new starter motor and MOT round the corner, it's going to take some careful sums.
Thanks for the advice everyone :-)
