Hi, wonder if anyone can offer some help.
I have just bought a Renault Scenic 1.4 16v. The garage I have bought it from have told me they just need to remove the 'change oil and service' warnings! This did ring alarm bells with me but it was closing time and they assured me it has been serviced!
Can anyone tell me, as this car seems to automatically tell you everything, does it automatically update itself when the oil has been changed?
I am going back to the garage on Saturday but would like to have some info behind me for when I see them. I can't find anything in the manual to say it updates itself.
Thanks for any help.

Hmm; pre-sale services tend to be of the very superficial kind. Resetting the service indicator is a manual process on these and is done with the switch on the end of the wiper stalk.
It might be an idea to ask for a full list of what was done and compare that with the list of what should have been done at that time/mileage in the service book.

As Screwloose says, ask them for a list.
As this is a petrol engine, if the oil was recently changed it should still be very clean - a transluscent golden colour. If it's black, they've not changed it. An oil change is the most fundamental part of a service. Pull out the dipstick and have a look.
And yes, resetting the service indicator on these takes 5 seconds and one finger!
Cheers

Same thing happened to my FiL's 2006 Scenic. 18,000 mile/2 year service interval but message on dash readout demanded service at one year and only 8k. Took it to dealer who simply reset the computer for nothing saying it was only routine and is a reminder to owner in case the service mileage limit has been reached after 1 year. I guess it's also a sales ploy in case tyres/wiper blades etc happen to need replaced............
