2003 130TDCi - Erratic idle. - mcyoon
After living with the erratic idle and the car wanting to drive at not less than 1550 revs , and it was gradually getting worse I decided to do something about it.

1. Took out the MAF and cleaned it. A cotton bud, some white spirit and a very gentle steady hand is all you need. Effect - not discernible

2. Replaced the air filter. The old one was VERY dirty. Shame on me. Effect - slight improvement. As if the PCM (ECU in old money) was relearning how to fuel the engine correctly.

3. Added a shot of STP fuel system cleaner. The bigger bottle £15 from halfords, added to tank then filled up with shell diesel. Efffect - Car appears to be cured. No erratic idle and no wanting to drive at 1550 revs when in gear.

Hope this helps anyone having similar problems.

PU, IIRC its a TDCi.

Sounds good though it could be worth disconnecting the battery to erase the ECU memory so it relearns. Needs to be disconnected for at least 30 mins and you need to make sure you have the radio code and instructions to reset elec windows memory.
