A 2003 (model) TDCi Ghia X could be a 115.
Yes and why are they changing all of the injectors, if it shows an error it is unlikely to effect all and reprogramming is worth trying before changing.
|
Hi,
They have been reprogrammed and didnt make any difference.
All the paper work on the car including the vin number shows it as a 130.
Been on rolling road and that said it was throwing out 132bhp

Most of the tuners, Superchips etc, rate the TDCi 130 as between about 142 and 148 bhp in std form.
I wonder if it could have been a misbuild from new, TDCi 130 specs, ECU, though 115 head.

That doesn't come as much of a surprise!

Cheers mate,
That is what i thought but i was wondering if any body else had this kind of problem.
Ford are just trying to push it under the table by saying yhat they do not do miss builds!
Thanx
Steve.

Oh yes they do! I know someone who bought a new Orion and it had the wrong sized crankshaft in it, rattled like a good'un, they had to fit a new engine.
|
When I was selling fords, I saw a fair few with trim mismatches and "impossible" combinations of engine and trim. Ford certainly do do misbuilds (or did, anyway)
In fact, it was staggering what would pass Quality Control and dealer PDI departments....

Thanx .
Has anybody got any ideas what i can do next?
Iv run out of ideas and it seems im banging my head against a brick wall.
Thanx again

You bought it second hand, was that from a Ford dealer, if so that would help with the following approach.
Does it have Ford service history? If so I would take the line that it has only ever been serviced by Ford, there are no record of any problems hence it must have come out of the factory like this and while you are happy to pay for the required repair you are not expecting to have to pay for any additional work that is required to bring it to the spec that it should have been all along. Write to the dealer and copy Ford Director of Customer Care.
Otherwise perhaps it has always had 115 injectors and so by simply replacing them it will drive as it did, if you were happy with it before perhaps that is the easiest approach.
On another matter - have we asked whether reprogramming, as opposed to replacing, the injectors has been tried?

Hi,
I didnt buy it from ford but it was still under warranty with them for 6 months.
The only work done to the car on warranty was a new cluch.
It hasnt got all ford history, it did have till i bought it.
They reprogrammed the injectors about 2 weeks ago and it made no difference at all.
My issue with the car is that i had 2 put 2 new injectors in 13 months ago and 1 have them has failed already.
The garage are telling me they will change them but i will be lucky if it lasts 12 months and they dont want to keep taking my money for the same job.(They said the injectors arent up to running the engine!!).
Thanx
Steve

Were you told 13 months ago that it was being fitted with 115 injectors?
If so did it have Ford history up until that point?
|
It should have a sticker on the engine giving the four 16-digit code numbers etched on the original injectors. Do two of them still match.
If it really is eating injectors at that rate, then I'd worry about the pump shedding frag. That's the scrapping point on these, a specialist breaker will give you a good price.
|
I still can't believe it is cost effective for Ford to machine the 115 and 130 heads differently to accept physically different injectors. It doesn't make any sense at all. The cheapest way to build these cars would be to have all the major mechanical parts identical, and achieve the power difference with fuelling and settings. Even if the injectors are different, it makes no sense that they wouldn't be physically interchangable.
Does anyone have a definitive list of the differences between the 115 and 130 engines?
I suspect Screwloose is much closer to the mark than the dealer. Something else is causing these injectors to fail.
Cheers

That's just daft Screwloose - it is a 2003 car, dont know how many miles or condition though it is easily worth £4 to £5 k so spending even a £1000 or more would be well worthwhile.

Have a look on here:
www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/diesel_injectors/ford/
It indicates that a Jun 03 on 115 and 130 have different injectors (note the power outputs are confusing, where they say 125 I think they mean 115, 135 means 130 and 150 means 155).
EDIT: As Screwloose suggests compare the numbers on your head with your injectors and also this list.

The bill for a failed HP pump and all the trimmings can easily reach £3000; a breaker will pay £2-2500 for the car - fleet managers aren't daft and scrapping 4 y.o. common-rails isn't as rare as you would think.
I've personally seen around a dozen - some even still under warranty - and seeing that around 25% [and rising] of my jobs don't ever get repaired, it will only increase; the repair ethos is fading fast in this just-throw-it-away-and-get-a-new-one society.
