During the past year, I have found this site to be entertaining, informative, and sometimes very, very helpful.
It seems that it would be remiss of me not to express my appreciation - so, thanks to all backroomers whose posts have entertained, informed, and helped me.
In particular, thanks to HJ for providing us with the site, to Stephen for keeping it running smoothly, to Dynamic Dave, PoloGirl, Pugugly, and Smokie for their moderating labours, and to Martin Devon who went out of his way to give me the benefit of his wisdom in response to one of my questions.

Agreed. This is no time for carping. This site is a civilised place where, despite longueurs, valuable information and shrewd comment abound, as do wit and occasional wisdom. The friction produced by differences of outlook has led to interesting debate as well as tedious and sterile argument and bickering.
I note that I have sometimes offended people unintentionally. Sorry chaps (and ladies actually). Happy New Year.
Normal carping will be resumed as soon as possible though.

Compliments of the Season, to you all.

Happy New Year all - thanks for your patience.

I'm delighted to see that I haven't been automatically 'logged out' of this excellent site after a fairly non-contributory year. Fact is I've had a brush with a lymphoma (treatable) which however somehow led to pneumonia, so right now and after several months I'm glad to be back, and also feeling very fortunate in comparison to very many others whose situation I learned about in the meantime, as being infinitely worse than mine.
2008 looks bright and I hope turns out to be so for the multitude of well-informed, generous and witty contributors to this forum.

A very good New Year to all here, i've enjoyed my time reading the general banter, the miserable and the very tongue in cheek and the obviously 'on day release' posts from you all
Many thanks to all inolved.

Happy New Year to everyone from me too, and welcome back Oz.
I'm not into new year resolutions, but maybe we could be a little more gentle with new people who come on here asking for advice?

A Scottish Happy New Year to you all !!!

HNY! :)
Off to bed now... behave yourselves until we all get up tomorrow!
Edited to add: Not that all the mods sleep together in one bed, you understand, just to clear that up... oh never mind!

I agree with all the above and this year I am going to take more time with my posts as I have realised that cutting them short like I do means they don't always read as helpful as I mean them to be - so even though I disagree I will try and explain it better.
That is my resolution for a 2008 year of posting.
Have a good en one and all.

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! (using the lingo of my adopted principality...)
Regards & thanks to all for an always informative & useful BB & motoring website, where you can always be guaranteed a fill-up on high octane chat, driven along by moderate Moderators.
A quiet lay-by on the information super-highway where you can prop the bonnet up, let the engine cool & discuss the life of, er.. Mondeo TDCI injectors.. (only teasing!)
Best compliment of all, perhaps: it's never dull.
cheers

Though copious amounts of PG are doing the job, here's to 2008!*
(*that's PG Tips, just in case of confusion!)
How about that as a new name for "IHAQ" PG's Tips?

Not emergency services thankfully - it sounds like they had a busy night in most areas.
I was on-call in case an important customer had problems in their data center (weather forecasting). If I can't fix a problem remotely it's a 25 mile drive to get onsite.

Happy New Year all.

A very happy and prosperous New year to you all. The world would be a little bit duller without you.
Take care all................MD

And Happy New Year from me to everyone who contributes to this distinctive, characterful (eng?) and helpful site - whether you favour Rover's or not :))

"move up Dave."
Thanks PU for the first good laugh of 2008....
Actually I don't suppose DD or anyone else other than you was moving anywhere much at 6.25 this morning! Do tell us - either you had a very sober and innocent New Year's Eve or you hadn't yet been to bed.

Dogs don't care whether you've had a drink or not, a spaniel's snout in the gob is as good as an alarm as any !
I didn't actually have a drink last night, a single friend came round last night, we talked and drank tea. Mrs P's in Wales at the moment managing a family crisis.
