Anyone know where I can get an in-line filter for automatic transmission fluid?
I'm looking for a proper filter, not one of those magnetic things.

I've got a couple of automatics, and want to put a decent filter in the rubber line that goes to the cooler. As you know, the standard filter in the transmission is only mesh, so I want something that's actually going to catch the muck, rather than swarf.

The main problem is matching the filter to the oil viscosity and flow rate (if any). Your best bet is to try somewhere like Demon Tweeks, who do a lot of motorsport stuff. They have all kinds of filters, and may have something suitable.

Demon Tweeks do an inline filter for an oil line, which would more than suffice for the viscosity and flow rate of ATF through the transmission cooler, but it's one of the Magnox jobs with a magnet in it to catch metallic particals. Not much use really when I need to catch clutch pack material. I found a place on the net that does various transmission collers and take off, so may give them a call oon Monday. Cheers.
