Only a guess; but the rev counter instability would suggest crank position sensor?

Who took the bulb out of the MIL light...?

only had the car a few weeks never noticed the ecu light so dont know if it worked or not or has been removed before i had it,
but short test drive drove great and still does , its just long distance i have the problem as i do lot or motorway miles it is a problem.
would switching ignition on and off sort a fault with a crank sensor??

It shouldn't; but with Vauxhall, I'll never say never....

A code-read might show something useful.
