I'm sorry it's Aberdeenshire. They're a bit slow on the uptake there...
I thgink not - I would say they drive faster up there than in the Central Belt

Confused is the wrong word - I think I know about confused, I'm not sure..
What works in Drachten, and elsewhere, is a total removal of signs, traffic lights, and road markings - nobody has obvious right of way, or priority, so you have to back off and LOOK and THINK about what's happening around you.
Can you remember the days when we were expected to (be able to) think?

I can remember and in an ideal world it might work, however I suspect animal farm mentality might apply and the system would be abused by those for whom defensive driving is less of a priority than gaining a minute or so.

Think about it though. The system creates a situation like the one in an African market, with vehicles and people mixed up together. Anyone driving in a noticeably aggressive or intimidating or dangerous way will immediately become the focus of strong public disapproval, with many reaching for their mobiles and notebooks to report an irresponsible driver. In an African market more direct and punitive methods would certainly be used when people got riled enough. It's not unknown in Africa for drivers to be lynched merely for crashing their vehicles, without any injury to third parties or their property.
Only a very foolish or insensitive driver would ignore these factors for long.
