Cigarette Lighter / Acc Socket - KenC
A friend has asked me to buy a solar trickle charger for her M reg
Honda Concerto (that does 300 YES 300 mile between MOT,s)
This is an attempt to try & extend the battery life/charge.

Solar chargers currently available in maplins.co.uk for £24.99.

She has told me that the Cigarette Lighter socket only heats up the cigarette
lighter when the ignition is on.

My question is does anyone know if the cigarette/acc socket on this vehicle
works with the ignition off ?
(she lives miles away & is housebound so not easy to check myself)

Far better to buy an Optimizer type charger and connect to the Battery, there is a permanent connection to the battery that has an inline female socket that quickly connects to the male on the unit. Don't trust them cigi connectors.

It's going to be much cheaper for your friend to hire a taxi ,but aside from that and to anwser the question I bought one of these solar chargers and they are a waste of time. Good mains charger will work much better.

In my experience, the sockets on Hondas are dead with the ignition off.

Yes, but won't the power be going the other way (from the charger to the battery) rather than the other way around so whether the ciggi lighter works with the ignition on or is immaterial.

If it doesn't work with the ignition off, it won't charge it either. Trust me.

The best of these chargers seems to be the CTEK - I think the XS3600 is the latest model. Seems to come top in most motorbike tests (a lot of bikers use trickle chargers). I use an older optimate which has been fine too.

And I'd connect it straight to the battery - it should come with some easy to use connectors.

A quick blast round the old church yard every sunday and you dont need a trickle charger.
