My dad is thinking of getting a Skoda Roomster 3 semi automatic - anyone got any experiences of the Roomster?

Maybe it doesn't bother your dad any, but you'd be hard-pressed to call it 'elegant'.

I agree with you but dad is 75, is trading down from a Peugeot 806 and, looks and practicalities wise, it ticks all his boxes!

Roomy, bright, auto, cruise, reversing sensors, flexible seats (for having picnics) etc.

"hard-pressed to call it 'elegant'."

That's part of the appeal, IMHO. It's practical, like a Berlingo or (going back) a Renault 4 or 2CV, and makes few concessions to the style police. I assume it uses Fabia running gear, and as such should be pretty sound.

I have to agree with you JBJ. I admire Skoda for doing such a car. I think Clarkson likes it (not sure if that is good or bad). Skoda really impress me at the moment. They are brave enough to do this and I think the new Fabia is a bit of a looker for a small car.
I haven't really answered the question but just wanted to add that I think Skoda are doing a good job currently. I'll shut up now - in an non-overbearing way - if you know what I mean.

Me neither, but the fact that he can get in and out of it comfortably is probably quite a good sign.

It's hard not to like a company that uses a full-size car replica cake in their advertising...

Will there be a 4x4 version of the Scout ?

HJ. thanks for that, had already sent dad a link to that.
A lot of Roomster reviews are , quite rightly, geared to wards their suitability as a family car. However my 75 year old dad is more thinking of him using it for daily trips to the local hospice (where he is a volunteer driver for the mini bus) and then for him and his partner going runs in the car, picnics etc.

What may let the Roomster down in his eyes is the perceived lack of "cubby holes". I recently cleaned out his 806 and removed 3 full baskets of "necessities" that he carries all the time! chargers, water bottles, mint imperials, hankies, thermos cups, maps, wet wipes, to name but a few.

Still find it hard to believe that Doblo, Kangoo, Berlingo don't come in automatic form! Thought these cars would be ideal motability choices for some.

I've had one as a courtesy car a couple of times while my Octavia was in for service although I only used it for a couple of brief dual carriageway runs.

I am 6' 3" & 20+stone so I found it a bit cramped. However, it seems to drive quite well (I had the 1.9 diesel) but I did find it leaned over a bit going round roundabouts - presumably from the ride height. Don't know if that helps.
