Does anyone have experience of the VW 115 hp petrol engine fitted to some octavias, fabias and superbs? I would like to know the mph/1000rpm please.
My old passat 1.8 is deafening me at 3500 revs equating to 70mph
Thanks for any replies.

MY audi 80 2.0E has a similar engine 1984cc 115hp. my needle speeds are
3000 rpm - 70mph
4000 rpm - 90mph
5000 rpm - 105mph
6000 rpm - 120mph
Mine gets abit droney at 80-85mph

It all depends on gearbox and ratios. The same engine could have different gearboxes between cars all depends on weight i guess

Wow! That's some wheelspin you're getting!

If the edit button had existed a little earlier:

I think we are confused with both our posts. I was just explaining what my car revs/mph speed in 5th equates to the OP's car

I had my pedant's hat on.
3000 rpm - 70mph = 23.3mph/1000 rpm
6000 rpm - 120mph = 20mph/1000 rpm, or clutch slip.

Electronic rev counters are carp. So are speedometers mechanical or otherwise.
A radical shift in the ratio between the two alleged measurements is only to be expected. Hardly ever not seen one with a modern car.
Amazing everyone doesn't notice straight away.

I really miss the cruising gear you used to get when 5 speed boxes first came in. e.g. my 1600 Montego and 1800 Astra both had top gear of around 25 mph / 1000 rpm. My current 1800 Corolla has a top gear of about 20 mph / 1000 rpm. This is frustrating on a long motorway journey.

Buy a diesel, ours is geared at 30mph/1000rpm.

30mph/1000 rpm? - many diesel cars are geared higher than that. My car is about 35MPH/1000 rpm.

I'm seriously considering a diesel when I next change my car, but why did manufacturers have to ruin the crusing ability of their petrol cars in this way? I loved my mk11 Astra as a motorway car.
