BBC Reports:
A groom who was driving too fast to meet guests and a mother caught with her son standing in her car foot well have been criticised by police. The 39-year-old bridegroom was caught driving at 107mph on the A947 Aberdeen to Turriff road at the weekend.
Police said that if he had crashed, his guests could have ended up going to his funeral instead. The 37-year-old woman was reported for carrying her eight-year-old son in a dangerous manner - unrestrained in back.
There were a total of 162 motorists found to be exceeding the limit on Grampian's roads at the weekend.
A roads in Aberdeenshire are not the straightest/widest - to average 45mph on a journey is pretty good going - 107mph !!!

Have they considered the possibility that it was a suicide attempt - he may have just met her mother.....

Well at least they would have all been assembled at the church.

I used to easily average 45mph in the 1960s:-)

I wish the police wouldn't be so patronising. It really detracts from what they are doing.
Anyway, nice to know that there are some traffic cops still left in the country.

It's not being patronising. It's what passes for wit in Aberdeenshire :-)

This is going to get me into trouble with all those who have never gone above the national speed limit by even one or two mph but as I know the Aberdeen - Turriff road rather well there are several places where 107 mph can be easily surpassed and given a clear view of an often empty road the only risk is meeting a passing crow (painful enough for crow and car). These are also the places where a speed trap is now most likely to be found since the temptation of a nice long sweep with good visibility is too much for those drivers not familiar with the habits of the local constabulary. There are other twisty and unsighted parts where even moderate speed well below the national limit will be too much for the unwary but you don't get revenue from advising drivers about that. I suppose the assumption is that someone speeding on a 3/4 mile-long straight will also be overdoing it on the twisty bits. Anyway I long ago found a better way of getting from Turriff to the south without going through Aberdeen and only slightly endangering the local crow population.

All of Cheshire (and I guess most / all counties) is like that. You're really only likely to get caught in a relatively 'safe' place - you see a nice clear stretch of road, the Scamera Pratnerships see a revenue opportunity.
If you want to drive fast then it's less risky for your licence if you do it in a 'dangerous' place.

Aberdeen to Turriff? I knew it well - weekends as a student. Went back after 50 years .. virtually unchanged...
Friend of mine hit a black cow one dark night on the 107mph stretch (if it's the one i'mm thinking of,, downhill in Turra direction).. Wrote off car, he was unhurt, one friend killed iirc.
Unsafe roads if visibility was poor then : I was always concerned about the off cow... saw several over the years...
The Leek- Congleton road is great for speed.. no cameras after the road out of Leek. Very switchy , hilly, sweeping bends. Great in good weather Horrible in snow. Lots of fatalities: muppets going too fast round corners on wrong side of roads.. Motorcyclists with no brains etc..
Fast Car did a Audi TT vs Boxstervs BMW Z?3 or Z4? shootout piccies on the Roaches outside Leek .. very picturesque.. . several years ago...
Nice running country.. the Christmas Cracker over the Roaches from Tittesworth Reservoir is a killer..

Edit: Leek to Buxton.. not Congleton road. Sorry.

Used to ride from Keele to Buxton via Leek Aim was to keep in top gear going up the steep hill passing the Roaches. Meant getting it as fast as possible past the army camp (still there?) just before the hill. Not very fast, by modern standards, on a 500 single. Hardly any traffic then.

Blimey Nortones, thought you meant top gear on a pushbike.
I was praying for your knees!!!

So it wasn't a BSA Gold Star then.
They were horribly fast. And what's more there weren't any helmets or radial tyres.
It's amazing anyone over a certain age is still alive actually.
