I am in Australia and run a 4lt Ford Falcon wagon with LPG fitted as a dual fuel conversion. It has the gas filler under the flap beside the petrol filler. All neat and tidy. You need to talk to the conversion people about that before you decide who to get to do it. Another thing to talk to them about is what sort of fuel gauge they supply. The older ones just have 4 lights which gradually go out as your gas goes down. Not very satisfactory. I am told that newer ones have a proper fuel gauge. Mine has the lights so I use the trip odometer to tell me when it is getting low.
Conversions come in at least 3 basic types. You have the old style mixer units which were cheap but not terribly efficient. I don't think they are used these days. I have a vapour injection unit. It works very well for me. It loses a little bit of power compared with petrol but with a 4lt DOHC motor you don't notice that. It might be different with a Kombi van. The latest system is liquid injection. It is supposed to be really good with little or no loss of power.
You should get onto the LPG forums to check out what to use. Also check out who does a good conversion. Some are very neat - others less so.
I have had my conversion about 6 years now and have never regretted it. It has saved me heaps and it certainly isn't messy to fill up.
