LPG question - krs one
Does anyone know if it is possible to have an LPG conversion where the filler nozzle is hidden from view , as some that I have seen look a bit untidy?
LPG question - barchettaman
Ours was on the inside of the filler cap recess, by the petrol inlet. We had an adaptor nozzle that we had to screw on each time before attaching the LPG gun.
I remember seeing a couple of Dutch LPG-ers with the inlet right down near the rear bumper.
Hope this helps.
If you´re thinking of converting a petrol car to LPG, a forum search should reveal some of the past discussions on the subject.

If I was contemplating an LPG conversion I'd be more concerned about where I was going to buy the stuff ~ there's none in my neck of the woods ~ rather that what the filler cap looked like.

Not sure about the availability of LPG in our area , but I am thinking about buying a VW camper.
As I've heard they can be uneconomical I was considering an LPG conversion but don't want to
cut chunks out of the bodywork, or appear a cheapskate to the rest of the world.

Where will the LPG tank go? Space is at a premium on any camper and if there are already water and waste water tanks tucked away (under the floor?), not to mention bottled gas, I'm not sure where you could squeeze an LPG tank in.

It's not really answer to what you are asking, however....

We have a 1999 forklift truck at work. It is a proper LPG model, not a converted machine. The moderators take a dim view of profanity on this site so it will be difficult to acurately describe this machine. Carb icing, lack of fuel capacity and hard work to fill the tank. It is also twice as expensive per hour to feed it on LPG than if it ran on normal red diesel.

I've a friend who's determined to convert his Subaru. I've pointed him to previous discussions here, but - you can lead a horse to water etc.

If you want to run a VW camper on LPG I'd suggest having a look round Volkszone.com and the fora at justkampers.co.uk - they've had some IT problems, but you should be able to get some info.

Thanks for the info Local Yokel , will try the sites you mentioned.

I just had my x type jag converted and despite initia teething problems it runs very well now, lpg is smoother than petrol although if you are too liberal with your right foot you will loose alot of economy.

The garage i had it converted at was converting an XKR!!!

I know this is an old thread but...................

Icing on the LPG unit is poor coolant or air blockage vent and top up & check flow into carb unit from gas unit on the forklift.

Run up when air leaked all should be fine if still freezing you have a crackred unit, Nikki units are good Beam are ok but cheap.

I am in Australia and run a 4lt Ford Falcon wagon with LPG fitted as a dual fuel conversion. It has the gas filler under the flap beside the petrol filler. All neat and tidy. You need to talk to the conversion people about that before you decide who to get to do it. Another thing to talk to them about is what sort of fuel gauge they supply. The older ones just have 4 lights which gradually go out as your gas goes down. Not very satisfactory. I am told that newer ones have a proper fuel gauge. Mine has the lights so I use the trip odometer to tell me when it is getting low.

Conversions come in at least 3 basic types. You have the old style mixer units which were cheap but not terribly efficient. I don't think they are used these days. I have a vapour injection unit. It works very well for me. It loses a little bit of power compared with petrol but with a 4lt DOHC motor you don't notice that. It might be different with a Kombi van. The latest system is liquid injection. It is supposed to be really good with little or no loss of power.

You should get onto the LPG forums to check out what to use. Also check out who does a good conversion. Some are very neat - others less so.

I have had my conversion about 6 years now and have never regretted it. It has saved me heaps and it certainly isn't messy to fill up.
