Whilst in Turin at the weekend there was a display of the new fiat 500. A lovely young lady with legs that went on forever, allowed me inside to fidddle about.
What a cracking looking car. This, Mr BMW man, is how to do Retro. UNlike the new mini, Fiat have captured the spirit of the old 500 superbly. Sure its bigger, than the old one, but all the styling cues of the old one have been carried over, including the inside where plastics have been cleverly made to look like painted metal dashboard. Plenty of room for my 6 foot limbs, comfortable driving postion. ONly room for small kidiwinks int he seat behind unless I sat with my kness round my ears. Small boot, but bigger than it looks.
They had the old 500 side by side with the new. It diodnt actually look that much bigger ( but I know it is - its an optical illusion)
All in all Its gorgeous.

I agree. I saw one in France a few weeks back and thought it looked superb.
I assume you fiddled about inside the car! ;-)

Altea Ego's new catchphrase:
"It's not that much bigger. It's an optical illusion."
|
It is me, but as the 500 is also to be made into a Ford, I keep thinking that the rear side window looks to have been taken wholesale from the Ka?
Still looks good though and I bet it looks better with a young lady in a short skirt having legs that go on forever sitting next to you.

.....A lovely young lady with legs that went on forever, allowed me inside to fiddle about.....
I´ve heard of optional extras, but that´s something else.
|
AE is aesthetically spot on this time. The 500 is a charming bit of styling judging by its pix.
I am intrigued by the young lady's talkative legs though. What were they going on and on about?
|
ive just looked at one of these "in the flesh" specially imported from hitally and ive got to say that if this doesnt sell in big numbers then its due only to what i have read and that is the price is too steep
Please get the price right fiat youve got a stormer on your hands
Only thing i didnt like? the bling back lights alla lexi
everything else brill
dash? gorgeous
interior space? amazing
front end? inspired
back end? very retro
sides? brilliantly done and a sticky out sill to the door, pure brilliance.
score 10/10 cant wait to see a right hand drive one but i would buy a left hooker anyway for the nostalgia

You would struggle even to get a LHD one. In Italy there is a 4 month waiting list now. This will probably mean a delay until next summer for the arrival over here. (Official launch is Feb 08)

Oh and it has a USB port by the side of the handbrake, with the "windows mobile" logo. Dunno what plugs in there - assume its an MP3 port but who knows.

Great site, the configurator is good.

I'm always happy when a lovely lady with endless legs allows me inside.

I figured it had to be more than a USB port. I have to say i would be nervous about a Fiat running
MS windows.........
Finestra blu della morte anyone?

When cruising across France on a minor road at 100kph last month, a black Fiat 500 caught and passed our bunched traffic. I wonder if it was the Abarth version as overtaking was performed pretty smartly. Looked good as well.
Guy on our road had a Steyr Puch version in the '60s ,white with green stripe IIRC, of the old 500 with the engine cover propped open. Sounded rather like a large lawnmower but looked racy with wide wheels..
|
They had the black abarth in the "old and new" side by side display. The metal abarth plate propped open the engine cover!

Sorry, you completely lost me there ... ;-)
Anyway, I agree. This little baby will sell very well over here, as long as Fiat sort their dealers out!
|
I admit that the car looks a cracker, but it will be overpriced when it hits UK shores. Who has ever bought an expensive Fiat? I bet Fiat UK will ask UK£8995 or similar, which puts the car into the bracket of sensible, safe superminis with no negative history...
I understand it will be priced higher than the Panda, which is cheap and cheerful, exactly how Fiats should be. And the Panda has 5 doors.
Incidentally, Fiat appear to have indefinitely delayed the launch of a 3-door Panda... wonder why?!
|
I saw a few on display on the streets when I was in Tuscany last week along with the new Bravo. Both were creamy white and both were stunning. I would have one tomorrow if I hadn't not long bought a new car.
|
|
It achieved 5* NCAP rating the week before last. My local dealer has taken deposits on some already, before prices and specs have been announced. Also on the continent the pricing is similar, and sales booming so don't think they'll have too much of a problem
|
If it's reliable...
If it's well built...
and the dealers are OK then it should be a good buy.
|
2 out of 3 may be good (reliable and well built - who needs a dealer ?!)
