Been on my annual 3 week tour of France. Yet again looked at the shelves for this mythical cheap PD engine oil. In around 6 large supermarkets/hypermarkets.
No luck - even the best spec diesel oil seems to meet a very old pre PD VW spec.
Talking Chevron, Elf and Shell plus supermarket own brands.
Glad I took a litre of Millers from home for top up purposes. Used 1/3 litre over a couple of thousand miles.
At least the supermarket diesel at 1.06 euros was cheap.

GWS is quite. I was struck by the lack of choice in French supermarkets back in June, and a rise in prices. A couple of years ago I could even buy 2-litre tins of the special Total oil for Citroen 4x4 transfer boxes in Carrefour. I don't even remember seeing LHM now although I admittedly wasn't looking. Maybe the choice and prices are still there in Norauto which I think is linked to Carrefour, a bit like Mr Bricolage.

On my last holiday trip to France (2 years ago) I spent quite a while in a futile search for VW PD spec oil to bring home. I even looked in a motor factors place attached to one of the supermarkets (could have been Norauto as mentioned below) without success.

Castrol Edge (VW spec.) in 1 litre bottles ?12.99 in Auchan Boulogne and ?10-ish in Intermarche in the South West. Both seen last week.

Did not spot the Castrol BUT it is still more expensive than the Millers which I paid ~ £25 for 5 litres IIRC.

I was only window shopping, so to speak, specifically for the prices and didn't buy any. The French prices are bit under Halfords' for 1 litre but not a lot and not really worth the trip! But OK if you happen to be there buying other liquids which really are cheaper than here.

VW's (said to be made by Castrol) Quantum Brand appears at a very good price at your local GSF,

Local GSF is in dodgy downtown Sheffield which I rarely venture into. I'd rather go to my local Millers dealer for the PD oil and ogle the immaculate Lister Jaguar. Driven by the late Gerry Marshall in the European historic GT championship (allegedly).
