If it is affected, then you will be supplied with a free replacement battery.

Apologies for not being strictly motoring related, but as some of you use your mobiles in your cars (tenuous motoring link), I'm sure you wouldn't want your phone to overheat whilst charging it from the ciggy lighter socket.

Also some bluetooth GPS receivers (the sort you use with smartphones and PDAs for sat nav) use these Nokia batteries. So if in doubt check your bluetooth GPS receiver battery type.

Seeing as how it is against the law to use a phone with said battery whilst driving, can anyone please explain the motoring link?? ;-)

Er. It is not illegal to use a mobile phone whilst driving - provided it is not hand-held.

Most sensible drivers use a hands-free device set to automatic answer.

I'm surprised people can get these phones to charge long enough to make the batteries overheat.

Those silly little 1mm wide charging plugs they put on newer Nokias don't last 5 minutes before you start having to twist them around and lay the phone at a 27.6 degree angle before it'll charge.

Nokia phones are complete carp. Hate the bleedin' things. One more area where the Euros just can't do electronics :)

I am very pleased with my Nokia. Even more pleased that my battery is unaffected. Why do they need a 26 character battery identifcation number though? How many millions of combinations does that give... (one for Number_Cruncher)

26x25x24.....x1 = ??

I was pleased my battery *is* affected.

It'll be wearing out by now (they don't seem to last very well IME) and I get a brand new battery for nowt.

£7.50 saved then :)

I would imagine the battery number is like a VIN number i.e. it identifies manufactruing source etc. etc.

The page where you can insert your 26 digit alphanumeric BL-5C battery number (from the battery back and if it is not 26 you can ignore it) to check it is here:
