6' 2", 21 stone(!), drive 2000 Nissan Primera. Pretty much the right size for me.
Other car is a Daewoo Nubira (Vauxhall Astra clone with a boot -- Belmont??), and I've had Vauxhall Cavalier, Ford Escort, couple of Nissan Sunnys and a Hyundai Accent.
Won't touch little cars, I look silly in them.
|
6' 0" 85kg (don't know what that is in old money).
Drive Renault Megane, suits me just fine, really comfortable seats. Good range of adjustments on the seats. Don't like any small car, just don't feel safe. I like some good amount of metal around me.
|
Well now we know who ate all the pies Jase.....
I'm 6 ' 1" and 15 1/2 stone with a 'bad back 'and I fit into the Accord very nicely .Comfort when driving is a priority for me .
My late father in law was 5 ' 2 " and when I first met him he drove a Humber Super Snipe, peering through the steering wheel..
Anyone remember the Dave Allen sketch where he was face to face in his car with a Mini and neither would back up. He got out to threaten the Mini driver by shaking his fist . The Mini door opened and out came the chap who at the time was Britains tallest man over 7 ft. I 've no idea how he fitted himself in there.
|
I don't understand why people drive cars that don't fit them.
At 6'1" I'm above average height, but not excessively. In the '80s/'90s I had great difficulty in finding cars from volume manufacturers with sufficient headroom and/or legroom. A Rover SD1 was pitifully lacking in both dimensions but the ubiquitous Cavalier mks 2 & 3 were fine.
I have a simple rule when assembling a car purchase shortlist - sit in one in the showroom, if the seat doesn't go far enough back or down then cross it of the list. Once the shortlist is done, I then have to go back with my wife, who's 5'3", and make sure the seat goes forward and up enough for her - thank goodness most cars nowadays have height/reach adjustable syteering wheels.
|
I does. 5'8" 185 lb in 03/03 Focus with seat well back.

At an average 6'0, and weighing an average 13 stone, I'm ideally suited to my averagely bland car - the good old Almera (with factory-fitted "sports" seats which manage to hug my not-very-wide body and are extremely comfortable). The only cars I've driven in which discomfort was an issue were a Renault Clio (03) and a Vauxhall Vectra B. More due to poor seats than car size. I get away with driving small & big cars without looking stupid fortunately!
|
6'2", 17 stone, no problem in either Scenic or Mondeo, or our old Fiesta (although the back was a struggle).
1st car was an original Mini, and had no problem in that either.
The only car I've ever had a problem with is SWMBO's old Peugeot 106 because I could press all three (badly offset) pedals at the same time with one foot! Still managed ok though.

There seem to be a lot of big blokes in the BR.
|
I'm 6'4" and about 18 stone. If find a lot of cars a bit 'tight' - but its getting in and out that causes the difficulty. For example an FTO actually fits me quite nicely, but I have to huff and puff getting in and out, and twisted my knee doing so when I was doing some work on one a couple of months back.
I can't really get into a Smart Roadster (I have tried!) and I look after an Ultima - which is also near impossible for me to climb into.
|
|
6'2" 90kg
Never had a problem with headroom in any car I've ever owned, even the low XJS had 6 inches to spare. Always set the seat as high as poss too to rest my thighs.
The 406 is ok but just isn't long enough when the child seats are being used so have to scrunch up a bit.
The 605 was inch perfect in every dimension, regret selling it.
My Polish B-I-L Mariusz is the biggest human I've ever seen, well over 2m tall, makes me look like a little schoolboy. He was driving a Cinqueciento?? when we first met and seemed to fit ok.
I hate sitting in the back of cars. Unless I can stretch out Chaise Longue style.
Jase - seek help!
|
6'0" - and just under 12 stone - I have driven the 405 for 12 hours in a day, and it's fine. I find that SWMBO's Focus is not as good, specifically it does not have good lower back support.
|
about 6' to 6'2" depending on the day, about 95kgs.
The MX5 is fine, can even climb over to the passenger side with the roof on to get out when parking in the garage. Another couple of inches of legroom would be nice, but it's comfy enough.
The C4 is great, lots of room - the Fabia equally so.
istr that my sister's Panda from way back had acres of room in it, and I was surprised how much space there was in the Mini *(no capitals). Both were fine for me to drive.
on the other hand, i always feel cramped in the f-i-l's XJ, seems a big car with not really all that much interior space, especially in the back.
|
That's strange because I got a lift in an MX5 once, and found it to be like a dinky toy inside, nowhere near enough space in any direction.
I found the same thing with the Nissan Cedric and Toyota Corona taxis they have in the land of the rising sun...
|
with all the respect due to a bigger chap though, you are a _little_ bigger than me so perhaps that's why the MX5 wasn't quite so good a fit!
It would be nice to be a little bigger, but no real problems doing 4 or 5 hour trips in it for me
|
"about 6' to 6'2" depending on the day"
Yeah I always have to re-adjust my r.v. mirror for the journey home
|
5'9" and the Accord fits brilliantly - the work they have done with Shukra on the seats is fantastic - can drive it non-stop for hours without any signs of being uncomfortable.
I drove the wife's Corolla (53) on a 3 hour journey th eother day and my back is killing me !
For some reason I cannot get a comfortable driving position in that car and I have used all the 'experts guides' on setting th edriving position.
|
6' 0" - 17st 4lb - No problem in the mondeo.
I've always wondered what everyone in the BR looks like? put a name to a face etc. Is there anyway we can get pic links up??? just an idea?
Thanks

Mazda MX5 - Type 2
Is a bit tight at times. Not bad on the Motorway. My brother has driven it. He's 6'3 and 19 stone. It's safe to say it was a bit tight getting in, out and generally sitting there.

I saw your post on the other thread an wondered how you managed in an MX-5. Your knees must be up next to your hands aren't they?
I'm an average 5'9" (and a half!) and 15 stone. When I drive my g.f's MX-5 I think I have the seat one notch from fully back to be comfortable. Suppose it depends on the recline position of the backrest?
A rugby player mate of mine is 6'5" and used to weigh 24 stone, he used to have a bit of trouble getting into some cars. He used to think his Renault 19 was a bit cramped for him. He's trimmed down a bit now though to about 19 stone and is currently okay in his Passat estate.
His Dad is even bigger, 6'6" and looks like he weighs about 30 stone. On his last car (Scorpio) he broke the seat twice and had to have the seat frame welded up!

I think there used to be a picture link to a meeting at the Ace cafe a year or so back leef and I think the northern members had a meet as well. Maybe one of the mods can find the pictures that were posted.
Judging by the respondents in this thread ( myself included ) any future meet would have to be somewhere with lots of room and a good stock of pies......

Indeed! Many of us seem to be "hefty" blokes by the size descriptions coming in. Pies and Beers all round!

"I've always wondered what everyone in the BR looks like?"
I look like that mancunian bird-watching bloke with the scouse girlfriend in that old sitcom "Watching".
I see Adam from time to time in Manchester (he doesn't log on much any more) and he is none other than Peter Crouch's clone.
I see Vincent de Marco who looks like... Chandler Bing in glasses
And I see Nickdm when he's in Warsaw on buisness and he's just so damn good-looking it makes you sick.
|
>he's just so damn good-looking it makes you sick
You'll have no difficulty keeping your dinner down if you meet me, then.

I too have wondered what BR regulars look like quite a bit recently. You do get some strange images based on peoples names.
I don't look like an imp by the way!
|
6 foot and 82kg.
Fit brilliantly into the well padded seat of my Alfa 145. Its the most comfortable seat I 've ever sat in!
The Mondeo seat is too wide for me and the lack of somewhere to rest my left foot causes me some discomfort.
|
You do get some strange images based on peoples names.
Ive seen a game played on another forum once where you type other peoples usernames into Google Image search, and post the most amusing picture that comes up!

Someone wrote earluer: "An average 6'0" ".... blimey where do you lot live?! Average I thought was about 5'8"? Conveniently, I am average height by THESE parameters!
I drive an Ibiza FR... pretty much suited to my height. Drove a Bentley Flying Spur the other day, pulled up at a friend's house and got "haha you need a booster cushion, you dwarf".
Thanks mate!

Someone wrote earluer: "An average 6'0" ".... blimey where do you lot live?!
Interesting you should mention location - it was me writing "average 6'0". I used to live in Bournemouth where I considered myself above average height, and in London I'm certainly above average height - standing on the platform at Temple tube station last year I felt like Gulliver travelling through Lilliput! However up here in deepest County Durham, most are 6' plus - many are a good 3 or 4 inches taller than me! I don't object to posting a picture of my Almera, but my face is equally bland and ordinary-looking!

In a word. Yes. Like Clarkson says. "You can fit into anything you want to fit yourself in"
Someone commented that I look a bit silly getting out, but I used to live abroad and owned a Suzuki Super Carry (1.0 van). I probably looked more stupid getting out of that. At least I don't get called 'Shaggy' (as in Scooby doo) any more.

Where do I sign up? :-)
The website is communities.msn.com/honestjohn - it's not anything officially to do with the backroom but is a handy place for people to post pictures, photos and stuff. I'm on there as are some of the mug shots of other BRoomers.
