Forte engine flush - Kingpin
I am thinking about buying some engine flush to add to my next oil change, the car I have just bought seems to have missed oil changes for the past year or two. The dealer did an oil change but already after a week it is turning black with dirt. Forte seems to be a quality flush product, is it worth it or better to do more frequent oil changes every 3k and let the oil clean things out using detergents? I am more worried about loosening debris or damaging the engine with a flushing agent.

i had the same question about a week ago and i got shot down in flames just by thinking about adding flush to my engine.
so by previous comments, just change oil/filter again with no flush.

wouldn't worry about oil turning black, as long as you know when you've changed the oil you'll be ok.
Forte flush is apparently the best stuff of its kind.

Personally i dont use it, i just use a good quality oil and a genuine filter and change every 6k.

I've got a feeling this Forte stuff was on the invoice after the Renault's service (at a main dealer)

The Mondeo has oil changes every 10k since I've had it, and that blacks its oil after about 20 minutes running after a change. I think it's a diesel thang.

The important thing, apart from the frequent changes mentioned above is to get the oil nice and hot before draining. This not only makes it thinner so less gets left behind in nooks and crannies, but it ensures most of the carp in the system is in suspension, so it comes out with the old oil).

If you really want to flush the engine, go and buy your chosen oil and filter, plus 5 litres of cheap oil that meets the minimum spec for your engine, and a second filter. Change the oil for the cheap stuff, change the filter and take the car for a long drive. Get home, drop this cheap oil straight out, replace the filter, and refill with the good stuff.

Cheers

Cheers, thanks for the suggestions. I think I will take DP's advice and do another oil change asap and then monitor things, see how much muck is in there when I drop the oil. I usually change it at 6 month intervals anyhow.
