Hi
My father bought an '03 passat a few months ago and all was fine until he found a load of water in the passenger side footwell. He took it back to the place he bought it and they found there was a leak from the pollen filter gasket. They fixed it and it seems to have stopped leaking.
Problem now is with the cars electrics. The windows seem lethargic to move, the temperature sensor on the climatronic seems intermittant, the cars clock keeps resetting when the car is started. Perodically while driving the speedo and rev counter etc drop to zero, all the dashboard lights come on for a while, the car keeps going and the radio still operates.
Any thoughts? Could it be connected to the water problem? I wondered if the voltage to the electrics was dropping too low (battery problem) but the engine seems to turn over and start ok.
thanks for your help.

There have been loads of similar posts on this site re the last Passat and whilst I'm no expert I gather that it is very common for the water leak issue to affect electrics.
I would be surprised if they are not connected and it can be very expensive to fix (sorry).
Is there a warranty?

Hi
Thanks, yes there is a warrenty. We'll take it back and get them to sort it out.

search for convenience module of comfort module. There is an ecu in the passenger footwell that gets wet and causes problems.
There are lots of variants of that ecu and you need the right set up because it depends on the car config.

Be careful with the warranty before you contact them, go through the T&C with a fine tooth comb.
They may not cover faults caused by other faults, faults that were already there when cover started etc...
