Has just gone on mother in laws car, which was towed back to our house.
Is this a job that could be done by a mobile mechanic?
Approximate cost would be helpful as well.

I assume you mean the clutch slave cylinder, in which case the gearbox needs to be removed as the cylinder is combined with the clutch release bearing within the gearbox bellhousing. It would seem a very good idea to have the other clutch components replaced at the same time, (Virtually no extra labour, just parts) It is best to use quality parts (eg.Borg & Beck-AP or Ford). This is not really a job for a mobile mechanic IMO but nothing is impossible, try a good independent garage.
