apart from the obvious what does carb cleaner do? do you spray it into the carb (airbox removed) with the engine running? wondered if it was worth using it on a tired mk 3 fiesta 130k, it doesnt smoke from the exaust and the emmisions were fine at the MOT in feb, thanks

I thought it was just a solvent to get all the brown gick off the outside of the carb and out of the venturi.
|
thanks lud, i was just under the impression that it might blow the cobwebs out of the jets and stuff,

That's called fuel system cleaner I thought, or 'injector cleaner', which you put in the petrol. Not everyone thinks it works, but I do.
Of course if by 'cobwebs' you mean that sort of brown grit that collects in the bottom of the float chamber and gets in the jets, then a dismantle and blow-through with compressed air seems to be indicated... Skoda Estelles are much given to blocked idle jets, which is how I know all this...

stick some cellulose thinners down its neck and watch the white smoke, its lovely
or
leave it if its running as its single point injection and you will do it more harm than good most likely young un from leics

I have use Carb cleaner before on sig point injection with no real issue's when servicing the odd car.....you can spray it from the air box (remove filter first) but I always remove the air intake then spray directly in the housing with the engine running and the throttle at about 1500rpm...load of white smoke......
Drive Safe........

ex....205 1.4 GT, 205 DT (pocket rocket....), 306 DT, 306 S16 (loads of problems...), Subaru Impreza Turbo (loved every min of it....blew big end, dropped on sec hand lump and sold....will replace one day with another) currently in a 51 plate Mit L200 and a Fireblade (which I happliy use carb cleaner on)
where abouts in North Leic's are you?

Its what was dry cleaning fluid carbon tet brilliant for getting stains of cloths and upholstery and cleaning EGR valves.
|
"Trico" in the old days-just cleans sticky goo off the carb.-in and out-but won't get rid of the deposits at the bottom of the float chamber.
