Following instructions elsewhere on this forum I bought into this system over the new year and tested it for the first time last week on first trip of the year to France. Stuck to windscreen in front of the rear view mirror and it worked brilliantly. The stories that you can drive up to the barrier at 50 mph are not true - it did open automatically but I was in second gear and it only opened when I got to within 10m.

A very useful device. When you get yours ask for two or three - I gave one as a Xmas present to my ageing father who still visits France regularly. Bills go to my credit card - he gets toll free motoring in France.

Allez salut maintenant!

3 bits of advice - 1 learnt the hard way.

Take out the contract from the motorway operator in the area that you regard as home, ie where you are likely to be during french office opening hours. I originally had a contract with SANEF (northern France) and when the unit went faulty I discovered you can only exchange at their own offices. Since I spend most of the time in the south, and only seem to pass the Boulogne office when it is closed, (which seems to most of the time!) Different operators seem to offer marginally different incentives, I now get free travel in the south on my birthday, not very useful, but better than nothing.

My new unit struggles with the coated windscreen on the citroen, much better range if held out of the drivers window as you approach, you can hit the barrier at about 10 mph in most locations.

Definitely would not be without it. It is also surprising how much you spend when lumped into a monthly statement on the bank account, whereas before you just didnt notice cash going out.

Also if it goes wrong you can still use it, they revert to low tech solution of manually scanning the bar code on the back of the unit.
DO NOT leave it in the car on the windscreen, very valuable acquisition for a boracic holidaymaker wishing to return home cheaply.

It is only in Italy using the Italian machines that operate at speed-they're sensible-they put the pick-up at the beginning of the lane and the bar at the end-well apart-also they sell their senders to all types of vehicle-not just cars.
