What is the cheapest I could hire an automatic car for, required for 2 weeks?
I have had arthrodesis performed on two of my toes on my left foot which has ruled out driving my car for 6 weeks. I'm now 4 weeks in and like a fool, despite my sick note, I'm thinking about getting back to work. Depends on car hire costs though...any suggests of where and for how much? Cost is the only issue, it can be the slowest most basic pile of excrement...just want the cheapests to get me through a couple of weeks.

Check any insurances aren't invalidated before doing this. My employer won't have me back if I'm off on a sick note.

Where can I hire one for and for how much? Although you have just mentioned one of the only cars on the planet that I really don't want to drive around in!
I don't know about any insurances...I have been told by the medics I can go into work if I can get there e.g. if someone gave me a lift..that's a bit tricky though as my work is 55miles and an 1hr 10m each way!

I picked up a Mondeo 2.0 Automatic at auction, drives really really well. If I were you bearing that in mind I'd probably just buy another one of them at auction, arrange temporary insurance, drive it for a few weeks and then sell it on, hopefully making a profit or at least breaking even.
There is always a risk to auctions though, but you can get some great cars for pretty cheap.

I've had two joints in my toes fused, complete with K wires sticking out the end-I can't go and pick a car up at auction...I was wondering where is the cheapest place to hire one for a couple of weeks-I'll be able to drive my own car again in a couple of weeks..I was just toying with the idea.

Can you travel to the hire place?
Can they deliver it?

Yeah I guess knowing the area could help people help me...sorry.
I am in Peterborough area (you're sorry..I know!). I was hoping the hire place could drop off but me collecting it and returning it would be no problem.

Unless there are any local/independent hire companies near you then you're probably talking about £450 for an auto Astra size car or nearer £600 for a Mondeo class of car.
If you're off sick and bored then I think I'd rather spend that sort of money on a holiday for two weeks.
