Does anybody have good or bad experience of this brand?
Widely available in France, apparently marketed as a premium brand. UK prices seem relatively high, but is it real quality or exploitation of a previous (good?) brand name.

Excellent quality tools if still made by Facom.
Used to make tools for Renault and Citroen especially, probably others too

My company did a test with Facom, Snap On and Stahlwille.
We thougt Stahlwille were best but Facom were a close second.

I have some facom tools.I cannot comment on their latest stuff as mine are mostly 7 to 15 years old. They are lasting well (as well as the majority of my snap-on tools)and are quite well made, especially their pin punches. As my tools are my living I tend to use snap on, but I think for the average DIY mechanic, Facom should be fine.

If using tools for your living I am surprised you rate snap on higher than Facom.
No contest in my book.

IMO Snap on are good quality but have now been left behind by the likes of Facom and Stahlwille.
They are also incredibly expensive in comparison.
They probably were the best tools 10 years ago but not anymore.
We wanted to subject a set of different hand tools to some very rigorous tests to determine best quality and durability.
When we told the suppliers what we wanted to do - Snap on declined to provide any tools whilst Stahlwille coudln't wait to let us prove what they knew about their quality.

I have spent a long time working with diesel engines which tend to incorporate tight union nuts on hydraulic lines. The correct tool to work on these is a split ring spanner. It's also a tool that is difficult to make and is highly stressed.
My best split rings are Facom. Snap-on come nowhere near.

Most of my tools are at least 10 years old and some about 40 years old!! The Stahlwille stuff is really good, also got Facom, and Snap-On. The older Snap-On was good, but the latest stuff is wickedly overpriced for what you get. I think they are living off their past reputation. To be honest none of the tools I've got have ever really let me down. More recently I bought some Halfords 'Pro' 3/8 sockets and some of their swivel-head ratched spanners and to be honest they're very good for the money - much better than expected!

Following this thread I bought a nice Facom Torque wrench from e-bay. A bargain at 25 notes delivered. Fierce bit of kit - always wanted/needed one.
|
Good for you, P U. Congrats on your "promotion". The new torque wrench may help you to avoid stripping any unnecessary threads!
(I've got my coat on, ready) :)

I won;t edit that - that is possibly the best joke this site has seen in many a year !
