The air con on the above doesn't work. I had some new refrigerant put into it a few months ago and at first it worked like a charm, left it over night and the next morning, nothing! I assume from this that I have a leak in the system somewhere. I haven't used the air con for some time and was wondering if because of the lack of use I may have damaged the compressor or the system itself which could be expensive to replace. What would the cost be for a new compressor and what is the best way to locate the leak?

If your man that put gas in it last time added UV dye, then you need to get him to go over it with a UV lamp. If he didn't, then you need to see someone that can pressurize the system with nitrogen and see if they can see/hear the leak, or get it gassed again with dye. If it all went over night, then it's a big leak.

I would suspect the leak to be the a/c condenser rad.(same problem area as Astra models)and usually behind the front cooling fan where a leak is not so easy to detect. The compressor will probably be ok as the safety circuit will switch off the pump if there is no gas pressure.hth

Thanks. Relieved that it may not have damaged the compressor. Is this condenser rad an easy thing to replace. Can it be done at home and then get is re-gassed or is it a specialist job?

Your earlier message mentioned that you haven't used the A/C for some time. In which case the seals in the compressor *could* have dried out - so don't rule out that you haven't damaged it.

Whilst checking the fuses to see if I could get the central locking to work again, I noticedthat a green 30 amp(?) fuse had blown. Could this be for the air-con?
|
What does the picture on the lid of the fusebox look like that relates to that fuse?
|
No picture, just relates to a number

No picture just relates to a number
39/40?
bottom right one up one in and two in
these seem to relate to the a/c

Having just looked up a 2003 Zafira handbook on Vauxhall's website (that's the earliest dated edition I can find) -
It's as Bell Boys has already mentioned. Fuses 39 & 40. Both 5 amp fuses.
It also mentions fuse 2 = 30 amp fuse (this is a larger dimension sized than the others). Fuse 35 = 10 amp fuse.
Plus fuse 22 = 15 amp. But this fuse is also for the hazzard warning lights, so if they're working you can dimiss it.
