Every credit to the supermarkets involved for such speed and efficiency.
Hell, yeah. If it was some government agency responsible for all this, they would still be setting up the task force, including a Tsar of some sort no doubt, to oversee the agency responsible for looking into the outsourcing of the work involved in considering the level of compensation appropriate, then consultants would be brought in at great expense to point out the painfully obvious, and then maybe after about 5 years' worth of costly fiddle-faddling around, about 15 people would get a cheque for a tenth of the cost of the repairs, whilst meanwhile some talking-head minister would be propped up in front of a camera to say how marvellously well they were doing.
It is instructive to note the extent to which the threat of loss of market share and bad publicity can impel such efforts to be made - although some companies might not be so worried.

This is why supermarket pump prices have gone up, narrowing the gap with branded forecourts, so that they can get their money back from the rest of us.

Exactly. My local Morrisons has gone up to 95p/ltr, on a par with a nearby BP.

that is a real surprise.
i thought they were charities handing out all those school vouchers. or are they not part of the government then? but then even the government has to raise taxes to plug gaps (though some people ask why they don't get the mint to just simply print some more money).
anyway, it is unfair that we have to pay for it all collectively. only those people whose cars were damaged should have to pay more their fuel.

BP is on sale for 93.9p in Lincoln. There's no evidence of price rises there.

Probably has as much to do with their buyers taking more care about the source of fuel, rather than just buying the cheapest.
8 million is probably the entire profit margin (on fuel sales only) for the year!

I had typed in my first posting - then deleted - a sarcastic, similar comment about the way New Labour would provaricate over such a settlement, something which it is doing right now over a number of well documented matters.
