03 espace auto brake/ticking fuel pump - jmsms
My 03 espace 2.0t auto(petrol) seems to have a problem with the auto handbrake,it works as it should in the handbook manually and automatically, but when i insert the card and it checks systems it comes up on the dash AUTOMATIC HANDBRAKE FAULTY, also the service light and P warning light stays on permantley.
The other possible problem is what appears to be the fuel pump fixed to the underside of the fuel pump,a few minutes after the car is locked you can hear a noise, sounds like a pump, for about 2 seconds and then the fuel pump starts to tick like a clock and continues until the car is unlocked.
I have only had the car a few days, so do not not know if this is normal!! thanks for looking!

I have only dealt with one of these Renaults with the auto handbrake but I think the problem may go away if you have the service reminder switched out. Begs the question as to its service history.......
However, the pump noise may be connected to the hydraulic handbrake operation and could well be an indication there is a leak in the hydraulic system which needs to keep the pump running to maintain the handbrake.
Whats wrong with a lever on the floor??

03 espace auto brake/ticking fuel pump - jmsms
Thanks for your reply. Firstly the service light also lights up with a warning light in my case the P warning light, so the service light is a service reminder and a warning light (according to handbook). The car was serviced 2K ago and has a FRSH.
On closer inspection what I thought was the fuel pump appears to be as you said, the hydraulic pump for the auto handbrake. I put the key card in and then removed it (auto handbrake on) locked the car, after one minute, there was a pumping sound for two seconds and then it started ticking. I then unlocked the car (ticking stopped) put the key card in the slot, then removed it (auto handbrake on) I then released the handbrake manually ( lift flap between front seats and pulled the yellow lever very hard), locked car and the pump did not tick. This therefore must be the problem? Is this a Renault main dealer/specialist/local garage/braking specialist job? Appreciate any advice.
