I have a bmw 316I 1995. When stationary with the engine running , if you press the clutch down there is a loud wyning sound. Is this the thrust bearing. The clutch does not slip and it drives like normal. Just this loud noise, oh and you can feel a slight shudder in the clutch pedal itself. If it is the thrust bearing is it an easy job to fix. What happens if it goes completly. will i just loose drive or will the back wheels lock up. Cheers

When does the whining noise start?

As soon as there's some force on the pedal even if you haven't pushed it far -> it's the release bearing

As the pedal is pushed beyond where the clutch "bites" -> it's the spigot bearing

To do either is a gearbox out job - probably best to fit a 3 piece clutch kit at the same time. You may have a little time to plan how and where you do this job at your convenience.

Cheers mate. The noise starts as soon as there is any pressure on the pedal and gets worse the further you push it down.
