Radio/cassette dim display - bathtub tom

I'm looking at a Clarion CRN 28 with a dim display - you can barely read it in daylight. I suspect it may be on permanent dim display, because it doesn't get any dimmer when you turn on the lights. I've got a user guide for it, but that doesn't show the wiring connections, presumably there's a feed to the car lights.
Can anyone throw any light on this please?

Radio/cassette dim display - bell boy

wack the top off and see if bulbs are user serviceable
any factor will have the bulbs in stock or maplins

be aware a lot of modern stuff has the bulbs on the minu-te pcb so you cant mess

no idea what your gramaphone looks like
