VW Polo Rear Washer Not Working - old_git
Help, anyone?

The rear washer on my daughter's 1999 5 door Polo has stopped working. I can hear the pump running, I can smell the cleaner, but nothing's coming out at the nozzle. It appears that a pipe has become loose behind the rear door panel, but can't see how to remove the panel to check/fix.

Any words of wisdom on how to get the panel off would be appreciated.

Thanks,

one cross headed screw in hole where you pull it , then the panel unclips at the top [next to window] when unclipped at top [just use your hands] lift panel up . job done, one of the easiest ive known once you figure them out !
put some lube in boot lock while your in .

Check in the boot behing the side carpets, there is quite often a rear washer pipe joint that can seperate if the rear jet has ever frozen up. Look for washer fluid!

also common that the washer jet - that passes through the motor spindle - seizes and fails. It then leaks from the point where the water pipe enters the motor unit. Or if the pump is good and the failure clogging then you can get any of the joints leaking. If using compressed air to clear a blocked hose you can create leaks from the joints, guess how I know.

you can get a rebuild kit that includes the motor spindle and cogs, nozzle, gasket, grease. or for a similar amount a 2nd hand motor. I think the same unit is used on pretty much every vag. certainly the same one on a 2000 ibiza and a 1998 A4 (thats the two that I have replaced)

Rock on!!

Thanks everyone for helping out with this. Removed the back panel and the hose had disconnected from the plastic connecter for the nozzle. Reconnected firmly, added a bit of lube to the lock mechanism, reattached the rear panel, all working great. One happy daughter, one impressed wife (bless).

Thanks to all.
