Hi

I have a ford galaxy 1.9TDI 2003 and the air con gas has run out, and I have noticed halfords are now selling the gas for air con to refill it yourself but I was wondering if someone can give me help in where I find the refill valve on this car.

Thanks for any help

The low side port valve is under the off side indicator lens ( I know its a service valve so why hide it there!). My advice would be to let an air con specialist service it for a 100 different reasons.
If the gas has completley gone and there is air in the system adding gas can & has caused serious explosions and there has been several articals in trade magazines on this topic. The system needs to be vacumed 1st to remove air & moisture before gas is added. On galaxays there is a sequence of adding gas which if not addered to can hydraulic the pump! causing several hundred pounds worth of damage & I have seen it done.
The bottles are only designed as top up gas & you will need to know whether yours is a twin or single system as thier capacitys are different. To be honest most vehicles are extremley sensative to an exact amount of gas being put in.
If it where mine I would remove a pipe once the gas is proffesionally removed & inspect for metal contamination.I wash one pipe out with a cleaner into a cloth and when it dries examine the cloth in sun lite to see if it sparkels. If it has a lot of metal the whole system will need cleaning &/or replacing. Sadly very common on this model

Can you be sure it hasn't sprung a leak somewhere? Otherwise that refill will just vent straight to the atomsphere.

Hi,

I used to have a galaxy 1.9 TDi 130, i had the same problem, as did hundreds of other galazy owners, i would almost guarantee a leak, i refilled my system to no avail, car was still under warranty when the problem presented itself. sorry if this is a bit doom and gloom
