My 2002 Audi A4 air conditioning is stuck on the economy setting and as such it will not cool as well at it used to.
I have had it recharged and this made some differenbce to its cooling ability, but is still not as good as it should be.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks in advance

take it to a proper air con specialist. waste of time and money to get it recharged without getting it checked. was it pressure or vacuum tested ? How much gas was taken out ? when was the dryer last changed? etc etc

Could well be the thrust sensor. Heard of this problem on a few VAG cars.
Have a look at these threads and decide for yourself:

If it is the same problem as in those threads it's either a £40 DIY job or around £150 if dealer dirties his hands. If you take it to the dealer they can diagnose the problem using the computer.
Good luck :)

I had a pollution sensor for the auto recirculation system on the A3 fail - it manifested itself by the auto recirc button only illuminating for a few seconds.
It was repaired under warranty, but I expect an hour would have been charged for the job and the sensor was £50.

You need to have the HVAC control unit read for codes and view live data, such as the various temperatures, voltage at compressor clutch, pressure sensor reading etc... If it is in ECON mode, the air cooling function is totally disabled, any sense of cooling is probably wishful thinking.
