Hi
I have got a BMW 316i which has done 65,000 miles. Just recently the coolant light has started to come on in the car followed by the oil lamp light. I have filled up the coolant which works for a few days but it is leaking and requires filling every few days. I have checked the oil level yet this seems ok??
Could anyone tell me what the likely repair is for the coolant leak and any suggestions as to why the oil light is comming on. I am bringing into garage next week .
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers

Cost could be anywhere from a few pounds to several hundred, depending on what's leaking. Which light is coming on? An overtemp light, or a low coolant light? Followed by the oil pressure light or an oil level light? If an overtemp light, then it's possible the engine is overheating, causing the oil to thin, and pressure to be lost - in which case you are in danger of wrecking the engine. Suggest you fill the coolant every day until you can get it into the garage to minimise chance of engine damage.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

Hi
Thanks for your answer. The first light coming on is the low coolant light (amber) followed shortly by the low oil level light (also amber). I have also noticed that even when i top up the coolant level the oil light still comes on after about 15 mins on driving.
I have got in the garage next monday but just wanted a clearer idea of whats wrong with it. But thanks very much for your help.
Cheers

It is obviously losing a fair amount of coolant, so you would be advised to keep your mileage down to an absolute minimum. If your daily commute is 15 miles each way, I would carry a supply of water to refill before your return journey and would suspect possible water pump problems at that sort of mileage.
