I thought Bailliffs could not enter your home without your permission..anyone know for certain?
A possible change to the law is what the op's Telegragh article is all about.

"The modern approach is to try to encourage people to pay by persuasion."
Very big bailiffs?

If things can go wrong, they will.
As the executor of her will, when my mother died I wrote to the local council with a copy of the death certificate and they sent a cheque to refund a proportionate amount of the council-tax she had paid - as is normal. A few weeks later we found that the same council had sent bailiffs round to the empty house to collect from her what they said was unpaid council-tax having lost all record of what had occurred.

I thought bailiffs needed court orders to gain access. Unless someone lets them in. Whilst I can understand the need for debtors to pay, most bailiffs are bullies. There was a programme on the infernal box several years ago that featured bailiffs, very good at bullying but soon backed down when faced with the manic kebab shop owner and family.

They cannot take your TV - It is considered to be an "essential" now!
