Can anybody tell me what the wheel nut torque for a 56 reg Renault Megane Sport Tourer with 16" alloys should be.
And before anybody says RTFM, it isn't in the manual, - far too technical for that
cheers

I owned a 52 reg Megane II with 16" alloys. No mention of the correct torque in the manual but on a leaflet with the locking wheel nuts it said 90Nm fro steel wheels and 110Nm for alloys. I used this setting for 40k with no problem.

If you do them up with the wheelbrace supplied you won't overtorque them.

Agreed - as tight as you can get it by hand with the supplied wheelbrace. Most cars are near enough the same torque setting for wheel nuts - 80 Nm ISTR

The data I have says it's 90Nm. Please note though, this is only for Megane's up until 1997. Later models *may* well be different.
As for simply doing it up by hand with the supplied wheelbrace, given that no two people have the same strength capabilities, the tightness of the wheel bolts could be any value.

seems strange that renault dont put user advice in the manual ;-o

Not really - how many people:
(a) know how to change a wheel
(b) know what torque is
(c) know what a torque wrench is and how to use one
I have an extending wheel brace - extended for removal, shortened for tightening. That way I know I'll be able to get the bolts off.
