Indicative costs - Chaz
96 Mondeo TD Fuel Pump problem.

Cost (time) to remove, have sent away for checking and repair, return and refit?

(I know the send away for checking etc could be any price but someone might deal in such things and know what goes and gets charged)

Any ideas appreciated
Re: Indicative costs - Cyclone Cyd
If you are reasonably certain the pump is faulty, then why not just get a secondhand one from a car of a similar age.

I know someone who is an engineer at a major fuel pump manufacturer for European OEMs and he tells me they are generally very reliable these days. So it would seem unlikely that a secondhand one would have a similar fault to your original one. Try and get one from a low mileage crashed car.

At least this way you know what it's costing you up front, with no open ended labour charges.

Have you a Bosch or Lucas agent in the area if so they will test it straight away on the car.
Re: Indicative costs - Chaz
the garage I would take it to said they send it to a Lucas agent about 12 miles away. Guess I could go there myself and get them to do it, if I could find out who it is...

About 1 hour to remove, checking pump around £80 plus cost of repair, then around 1.5 hours to refit, bleed and time up.

Thanks AM for those costs and timings
