Millers Dieselplus - David Boulton
has anyone trialled this over a long period? I have tried it for the last 2 months in the hope of getting back the mpg of my old 1.9 nonturbo Peugeot to that prior to low sulphur diesel. I have noted no improvement at all, in fact a slight reduction (which could be within "experimental error").
I did ask the makers for data or trial results, but without success.
Any ideas before I go to my local diesel specialist for injection recalibration?

You may as well put your money in the bin the same as all aditives, its a mixture of cheaply readily available products.
Re: Millers Dieselplus - Ian C
Well, Ive used Millers Dieselplus (formerly Diesel Clean) for about the last four years in various diesels (as have family and friends). In fact, ever since Diesel Car magazine first had reports of how good it is.

It's been used in various cars of mine including an old 1.9 BX non-turbo, a 1.9 ZX Turbo, a 306 1.9 Turbo, a Saxo 1.5D, a Xantia 1.9 Turbo, a Fiesta 1.8D (new shape) and many more...

It has definetly kept the engines and exhausts far cleaner than even decent diesel alone, and has improved the poor cold start performance of all the turbos (they really need a spring mod in the injector pump), it has definetly not worsend fuel consumption, and I have noticed no losses through the switch to ULSD.

However, I remember reading, in Millers literature that used to abound, that if you use the extra performance offered by dieselclean(plus) then dont expect any extra economy. My advice is stick with it (especially if you buy the cheapest fuel you can find, regardless of make) and use the doses required - giving it an extra high does initally to clean the injectors off. One last point, how many miles has your 1.9 done? If its nearing the 100k mark, the injectors may well need renewing...
Re: Millers Dieselplus - Andy Bairsto
Our Pug 405 diesel has now covered 425000km without any additives and using the cheapest oil and XM 2.5td is now coming up to 200000km.Talk to big mileage users ie.haulage firms they would laugh if you suggested putting a bit of meths and parafin in the tank at massive costs. The stuff works in the mind .Independant tests in Holland found no marketed additive was of any use and some were harmful.

Andy
Could you point me towards the independent tests you refer to? Thats the sort of thing I asked Millers for!!
I use a good quality "straight" mineral oil (not synthetic) and change it every 5-6k miles.

Thanks again.
Re: Millers Dieselplus - David Boulton
Injectors replaced last year, just after I bought it

I have not changed my driving style, and have noted no increase in mpg or performance.
Re: Millers Dieselplus - David Boulton
Ta

I had was coming to that conclusion, as Millers have failed to forward the information I requested, despite several attempts and one promise

Thanks
Re: Millers Dieselplus - steve
Like you I have only been using it for about 2 months in a E300 diesel mercedes. I have noticed no improvement in performance or economy but the emissions are cleaner; ie it hardly smokes at all even at the highest revs. I used to notice a slight smoke screen when revving it hard (could only see it at night in the headlights of following car); that has now all but disappeared.
Good or bad; I suspect good actually.
A friend uses it in a diesel Multipla - he thinks that it has made the car smoother and quieter.
Bought in 5 litre tins it works out to an extra 0.7pence per litre of diesel.
Re: Millers Dieselplus - David Boulton
Thank you Steve

I think it fair to say the jury is out on this for me.

I have a ½ litre container, which cost me nothing as I did an oil change on my daughter's boyfriend's Renault 5 turbo (don't ask - easiest to take the grille etc off a la mini) so I will continue using it until it runs out.

Emissions on mine were 0.3 against a MOT max of 2.5 (before I used the stuff), which makes me think the injection system may be a little weak for the low sulphur diesel.

Thank you again for your response
Re: Millers Dieselplus - Marcus(Essex)
Andy,
It may not be any good in a car but if you sprinkle it on your garden in keeps lions and tigers away - I've been doing it for years and I have never had problems from those animals. So it does work and that proves it - so there.
Re: Millers Dieselplus - David Boulton
Strangely enough, this may explain why current users believe in it so much
Re: Millers Dieselplus - mad hatter
Well, Im with Ian C on this one.

Having been s subscriber to Diesel Car magazine for many many years, I have seen many independent test and testamonials to dieselplus's performance, one I remember inparticular concentrated on a companys fleet of cars and all showed far lower emissions and improved economy when using diesel clean (as it was then) - however some engines (non PSA inparticular) showed more improvement than others.

All I can add is that my Omega 2.5TD and Escort TD are far smoother and cleaner with the aid of dieselplus (and my boat engine no longer obscures the entire bay when started now its running on it too!)
Re: Millers Dieselplus - David Boulton
Any idea which year and month the magazine did the trials?
Re: Millers Dieselplus - mad hatter
Sadly I recently recycled a load of old diesel car mags (all of them, in fact!) when moving house - I would guess it was 2 or 3 years ago...

Millers used to be very forthcoming with info about their products, even allowing you to send a sample of their synthetic XFE diesel oil range into them for testing to determin if you could safely extend service intervalvs.

I wonder if the company has changed hands, or has new management?

Mind you, I remember reading a letter in a very recent Diesel Car (within the last couple of months) from someone at Millers in relation to using their oils in the latest 'PD' VW Tdi engines...
