hi, how should one interpret the phrase " one careful lady owner" when deciding what car to buy , i had a neighbour (female) who topped up the brake fluid resevoir with tap water once, any one experienced anything similar?

Did the lady who put water in the brake fluid describe herself as careful ie are we talking about one and the same person? I think careful is usually taken to refer to the driving style and not the DIY skills!

I think of 'one careful lady owner' the same as car batteries that say 'heavy duty', and colleagues who always 'get a good deal'.
It's all hairy sphericals!

why would she use her driving style to help sell the car,if the oils never been changed ..thats what im getting at!

"Motorway miles" is another one. I know what the vendor is getting at, but that implies that they live in a service station and never drive anywhere but motorways.....

"Careful lady Owner" refers to the driving style, IMHO. Being careful implies that the servicing is done properly and the service book would would show if that was the case or not. Servicing is servicing regardless of the gender of the owner!

I wouldn't think of it as anything to do with servicing, merely that the owner (who may not be the only, or even the regular, driver of course) doesn't 'razz' the car.

It could also mean that it's frequently driven at 30 in 5th and never for journeys of longer than a couple of miles!

I'm working on a new economy style of driving at the moment - pootling around Leeds trying to keep revs below 2000RPM and with the lightest foot possible, followed by good thrashing once a week. I wait until I have a white car behind me and red line it, then inspect the contents of the exhaust in the rear view mirror.

Depends on the lady really. And as a buyer you may not get to find out much about her.

May mean well driven and properly maintained. May mean never driven more than two miles, never fast, and maintained by a marvellous grinning con man round the corner.

May mean recently acquired from a thief by a dodgy backstreet dealer.

You just don't know.
