My girlfriends Ka has had a suspension knock for a while now. I've pointed out that her coil is bent but she still continues to drive it. Yesterday I told her to check the MOT as it may be due soon, so I got the chassis number and checked online, the MOT was due last week.

She dosn't seem to be that bothered but I am worried she is will get into serious trouble, either when a plod notices is or when her wheel falls off.

Rattle
The last thing you want is a girlfriend with a dodgy coil!
And yes she could get into serious trouble
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Rattle
She won't listen to me :). I have also asked her when she last checked the oil and water etc, she said she has never opened the bonnet since she bought the car, she's done 6000 miles in it. She did have it serviced though so I assume all that would have been done.

Everytime you turn left all you can hear is clonk clonk clonk ansd when you look at the coil you can see the hole assembly is broken, I am suspecting cracked wishbone.

Book the car in for an MoT on Saturday morning, drop it off, and take her shopping. She'll soon forget about the car once she's in that changing room.
Silly people driving dangerous cars - rogue-trooper
I once asked my sister when she last serviced her car and she relied that she had had an MOT about 2 months earlier
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Rattle
She has no money at all, the bank are after her etc and she won't let me help, but that is probably because I only have £37 in the bank at the moment due to an expensive holiday coming up. I forgot to mention that the rear drums are making a right racket too :(. I doubt there is much friction at all left on them.
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Pugugly {P}
Hiude the keys then - it's for her own good as well as other lawfearing individuals !
Silly people driving dangerous cars - local yokel
She'll have even less money if she's tugged by Plod for driving a car in a a dangerous condition, especially if it happens after she's been in accident, as her insurance company may suggest she's not covered.

I'm sure there are many, many people like this.

My kids are generally pretty sensible, but my if I check the tyre pressures on my eldest daughters car before she sets off on a long journey then she just thinks I'm trying to hold her up.

Shouldn't this thread be amalgamated with the Bugatti Veyron one?

Sublime, ridiculous, what's the difference? On reflection I doubt if Rattle's GF is genuinely silly, she's just short of money and doesn't understand cars, like a good third of the country's motorists (most of the rest have some money and don't understand cars).

The Veyron driver on the other hand, bit of an onanist perhaps?
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Rattle
I don't live with her :) So hiding the keys is not an option.

And what's wrong with taking the keys off of her when you finish seeing her for the evening.
Obviously you can't care too much for her; letting her continue driving an unsafe and non roadworthy car with no MOT. And not to mention calling her silly on a public forum.

If you haven't got the balls to do anything about it, then email me the registration number and I'll report her on your behalf.

That is of course if this story is actually true, and you're not just another Walter Mitty who occasionally descends upon this forum.

I'm surprised that got through the swear filter !
what a perfect pun too ...

Can't her parents help her out? I'm sure they would not be happy that she is driving a car with dodgy suspension and no MoT.

I once had a wishbone snap while I was driving but luckily I was only doing 5mph at the time (and I had a valid MoT), but the wheel came off and damaged the sill, potentially writing off the car. If it had happened at speed it could have been a different story.

I like the way you string out the problem over several posts and the reasons you cant follow advice offered,

Reminds me of the "burning oil while hot" thread :)
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Jemima Can
She's got a brain, hasn't she? You've pointed out what could happen to her, haven't you?

So there you go - you can't do anything more.

if you can't put up with someone who lives like that - dump her

Both happened to my dad, we sacked the garage over it (and later found out they bodged a lot of other things up). Basicaly they replaced a wishbone, two weeks later the coil snaps.

Luckily the wishboen was replaced before it snapped, and the coil snapped as my dad was pulling out so was doing less than 10mph.

This is getting as bad as "Closure" and his wide wheels rubbing the arches on his Saxo! Just before Xmas 2006. 50 posts in 3 days all telling him what he should do. He never got back to us - perhaps he crashed but it didn't make the news!

On Sunday I was travelling up the A610 toward Ripley in Derbyshire. There were gaps in the hedge at the roadside that appear to have been caused by a car going through it. The approach angles for the gaps were not commensurate with the general direction of travel of the cars on that side of the road (there is a central reservation).

I reccon that when that coil really goes, that Ka will make just another strange gap in a hedge somewhere. At least that is perferable to hitting a person!

Red,

A whole new meaning to "I think the bush has gone" !
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Westpig
PU,

Are you suggesting his girlfriend has left him?
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Rattle
I have offered to lend her £300 towards the MOT but she won't take it :( She knows its dangerious, I think I have got that throguh to her, her dad has booked an MOT for it on Friday but has told her he has no money to pay for it, neither does she. She shouldn't have a car if she can't affrod to run it.

Silly people driving dangerous cars - Pugugly {P}
No, in all innocence !

Torch it while she's not looking.
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Rattle
Overdrafts :) I run a business so its just a cash flow problem until I get paid for a couple of large jobs (should be tomorrow).

£300 is an awful lot of money to me, but my girlfriend is worth a lot more than that.
Silly people driving dangerous cars - Westpig
Yes Mr Ugly, we've heard that before... do you know a good lawyer?

armitage, pugugly, oilrag, seem to agree. by the way, this guy has said in another thread that he is driving an 11 year old fiesta worth £400on a provisional licence while he runs a business .
