New generation cameras in action - Phil Ireland
From the current net edition of W.M. Express & Star. This is the kit that Sandwell were using a short while ago with considerable success in tracking miscreants of one sort or another (speeding or otherwise)

Good. I'm all for this kind of use. Trouble is, when they get to court they are treated to a very lemient punishment.
A young car thief around here was caught after a chase, and when he got to court he was 'banned from driving until he got a driving licence'
What?
Surely we are all 'banned' until we get a licence?
What kind of punishment is that?

They must be pretty good if they can read tax discs. Makes you wonder why 'enhancement' is needed to read number plates...

I'm all in favour of cameras being used to catch car thieves for a change. Are the police allowed to keep part of the fines, I wonder?

Oh right - you mean they are still just reading the number plate. Doh! (but relieved)
