Hello
I have tried Castrol Magnatec and the diesel version.
The Petrol version seems to make the engine more tinny.
I use halfords own and shell oils and they seem to perform well in my Mondeo petrol 2.0 (2000 version)
We tried magnatec in the wifes fiesta (1.6 duratec) and it makes the tappets loud (only two years old and done 20 thousand miles)
This is solely my oppinion.
And to answer your question fully Try Halfords range of oils they seem to work well.

Ford Formula "E" is the correct oil for this engine for any usage.

I trust that you've had the belt and tensioner done;tho' Ford say 80,000 on this engine 60,000 is probably safer.

I agree with what jc2 said (both parts). Cambelt failure is what kills most of these engines. There are some who recommend 30k intervals, although these later (Endura DE badged) engines use a fatter belt and have a redesigned belt cover which are both supposed to aid belt life. Bearing in mind the total destruction that accompanies belt failure on these engines (valves don't get bent usually, but smashed back up through the top of the head), it's your call. I do 30k on the Mondeo (same engine).
The belt kit on these engines also includes a new injection pump drivebelt and tensioner, as well as a new cam belt adjusting eccentric (plus the aforementioned cambelt and tensioner) which should all be changed at the same time. If you do the job yourself, you will also need a set of timing pins consisting of a crankshaft setting pin, an injection pump pin and a setting plate which sits in the tail of the camshaft and locks it in place. Mine was a Laser Tools set which cost £30 from the local factors.
Belt swap process is logical and straightforward. Getting access to the belt is a complete pain though.

Particularly if you have both PAS and AC.
