Thanks all for the prompt feedback. I will revert to Vaux semi-synthetic.
Should I be at all concerned about the oil consumption that has crept in over past 2 years (about ½ litre per year / 7000 miles)?

Not really, my 172,000 mile Omega with that X20XEV engine now consumes around 4 litres/10,000 miles; but that's still within the limits in the user manual.

As a matter of interest I buy it in at 5l for £7.50... absolute bargain.
Care to enlighten us some more MM? Is that trade price, or are you a member of Vauxhalls trade club?
Last time I bought 5 litres of 10W/40 semi synth from my Vaux dealer, it was approx £21.
Autovaux's price is £9.79 + p&p + vat (total £19.14) so not really much cheaper than Vauxhall themselves.
As my Vectra-C consumes approx 1 litre every 2,500 to 3,000 miles, I too could do with buying it at £7.50 ;o)

DD,
Re: Vauxhall 10/40 Semi-syn.
Mine is a trade arrangement with a place that does retail too... it is £12.95 on his shelf today. He also does what I understand to be 100% the same oil in a red can and branded AC Delco... that is £9.99 retail. I think his fully syn 5-30 AC Delco is under £14.
I've just been to do an MOT at the local place I use in town and he has the same Vauxhall oil on the shelf at £12.15 retail.
We are in Cambs just south of Peterborough.
