Thanks - that's helpful. Have formerly posted on the Peugeot 207. Am choosing between those two cars....

Check out any car reliability survey and you will find that Renault do not perform well, although there are signs that they are improving. Number one area for improvement IMHO is their wiring system, which is abysmal in terms of both component quality and design. Peugeot are little better.
Many Renault dealers are plagued with cars that keep coming back like boomerangs and resort to desperate tactics to shake off persistant customers.
There are much better cars out there to spend your money on - in fact pretty much any other brand other than FIAT.

One of a number of cars based on Nissan's B platform. Reliability surveys seem to suggest that the Modus, which shares this platform, is performing significantly better than most of Renault's recent offerings. So it could well be that this new Clio is a good car.
Eventually Nissan's influence is bound to rub off on Renault, it's inevitable. After all, there's been plenty the other way around......

Thanks for your advice guys - think i'll stick with the 207......

I wouldnt.
The 207 is a nasty little car. The clio is better in all respects, comfort, space, refinement, build quality, and have you tried to put anything in a 207 glovebox?
Wife has just ordered a new clio. she marked the cars:
1/ clio
2/ ibiza
3/ new corsa
4/ 207

Did she not consider the Polo or Yaris?

I think id have a Yaris, Colt or Mazda 2 myself. Europeans sem to be unable to engineer the newest technology with durability whereas atleast the japanese do for the most part.
The Clio vs the 207 is a choice between two average cars - its always so funny when you read in the BR about the problems people have with their cars and the suprise in their words, as if the information wasnt out there.

Such a shame the Micra looks so silly -- for it is nowt but a Clio built properly in effect.

Does anyone have a winch handy? I need to life my jaw from the floor...;o)

It looks like a big improvement over the older Clios, but it's not really a small car any more. Neither is the 207. When I've seen either of these on the road, the first thing that strikes me is the size of them. In fact, I saw a new Clio and a Peugeot 306 alongside each other at the lights, and there's barely anything in it.
Cheers

All the superminis seem to be gaining weight in the same way.
10 years ago, a Hyundai Accent seemed huge next to a typical small car of the time (Micra, Metro, AX, 106 etc). Now there's not much in it. The true successors to the superminis seem to be the next segment down from the Clios etc, the likes of the Panda and Picanto.
