oil for Honda? - telecaster
I have just bought a Honda Varadero motorcycle.

I had planned using castrol magnatec 10 w 40 w when changing oil.(semi synth)

According to the guy in the shop, I should use an oil specially for motorcycles as car oil can wreck the wet clutch!

Any help there please?

The seller is correct; car oils contain zinc-based anti-wear additives that can cause slip and judder on "wet" clutches. Stick to a proprietory 4-stroke motor cycle oil.

Castrol or Morris oil for bikes is all that goes in my Africa Twin and it's fine (Wet clutch too)

Is yours the 125 or 1000 Varadero?

Mines the "baby" Vara 125.

I had one of those (LG02 CAA)...great little thing!

Keep an eye on the oil as the cooling system on these is so good the oil can emulsify very easily.

Used to take people two up no problems...and nods from all the 'proper' bikers!

Yeah seems to be a common problem on them.........good blast every week clears it usually!

Castrol recommend GPS 10W-40 (or GP 10W-40 as an alternate recommendation)

Mind you, I have used Castrol mineral oil (I think 20w/50) in my CB-125TDC for as long as I can remember because when I used to use the recommended 10w/40 it used oil like there was no tommorow. No harm has yet come of it. Yours is a more modern motor though, so don't get using 20w/50 on my say so.
