Car Mags Must Go - grafen
I have decided I want one of my spare bedroom 'back'. It is currently bursting at the seams with old car magazines. Mainly, Motor, Autocar & Car, from the 70s, 80s & 90s. They're all in pretty good nick & I'm reluctant to just throw them away.

Does anybody know of any car club in the Manchester area that would benefit from them (gratis), or any other good home for them?

Thanks

"Car mags must go". If I had £1 for every time my wife said that to me, I would be ... able to buy a lot more car mags.

You could phone round some local charity shops to see if they want them to sell. Or put them on ebay if you have the time and patience to list them all.

You could bundle them up and sell them on ebay, but I suppose that depends how much your time is worth to you - if you can be bothered to put the contents in the advert for people searching. Old magazines are usually worth at least the cover price. I recently sold some old car brochures from the mid-80s and couldn't believe how much they fetched. Most went abroad. one for an E28 BMW M5 went for £25 inc P&P to the USA.

I have had some success locally by passing the problem on to neighbours by donating the mags to starry eye boys who are keen on the mags but can't afford £4 a pop to buy them!

I had every single copy of Autocar and then the Autocar & Motor as I recall, and then Autocar again from about 1984 until at least ten years later. Nobody was in the least bit interested in them and I ended up giving most to various waiting rooms. The rest went in my council paper bank.

Hmmm...

I'm even less certain of what to do than I was before. Why are we such hoarders?

I carried out a similar exercise last year. Basically I sorted them first into two groups. The majority went for re-cycling but I e-bayed the interesting ones. Cars like Porsches, Ferraris, Golf GTis, etc,. get a lot of interest as does the odd article such as the launch of any major new model, and are worth the effort. Face lifts of rep-mobiles, people carriers, etc. - no way. I made over £700 but doubt those thrown (~80%) would have made a £100 with a huge amount of time and effort.

Maybe www.freecycle.org if you just wanted rid of them.
