Citroen Xantia 1.8 16v braking noise - Pascal

Hello,
my V reg Xantia 1.8 16v (non hydractive) makes a strange whoosh kind of noise upon heavy, and sometimes not that heavy, braking. The noise is loud enough to be noticed from the outside. It is not related to the ABS which seems to work OK.
My front tyres have been changed recently (5000 miles ago) and are not top quality.
The braking does not appear affected, yet.

I recommend you post on www.frenchcarforum.co.uk, they will help

All i know is sometimes the rear caliper go out of line due to corrosion, then when you brake the pads are uneven over the disk and cause squealing, the remedy is to clear the corrosion form the back of the calipers.

Other than that have you checked all the pads to make sure the are even, also some cheap pads can cause noise.
