Just use 95, 97 won't make any difference to emissions.

I would check the airfilter is clean (give it a vacuum if it looks mucky / dusty, or replace it) and take the car for a good 10-mile thrash at high rpm before taking it to the test, to blow out the crap.

New plugs, check your dizzy cap and rotor arm are clean, new plug leads?
And present it engine hot. but the test is done at the end and the engine does cool down.

Just give it an Italian tune-up: on the way to the test, after doing five miles or so to warm up properly (it does take that long), push it hard for, say, another 5 miles. If you are low on fuel, fill up with one of the brands HJ recommends for their detergent content -- Shell, Texaco, etc. Don't worry about RON -- higher than 95 is irrelevant to your engine, I would think.

Italian tune up and get it good and hot before the MOT is the way.
assuming that the servicing schedule is up to date.

The Emissions test done at an MOT is prescribed by the Ministry as to be done first and most test station do that. It is not compulsory but it is also in the interest of the testers that the car is not belching out junk whilst they are testing the vehicle. An before you argue with that, I have just come back form the MOT test station and read the prescribed test procedure documentation whilst one of my cars was being tested. Regards Peter

im chuffed, passed mot with just a tweek needed to the carb and re align nearside head light and replace cracked wing mirror all for a tenner(plus the 45 quid for the test) not bad in my opinion for a £200 car ive had for three years

I'm glad it passed, you seem to have hade a few "niggles" with it over the last few weeks.

My Xantia has just failed on a blowing middle box on the exhaust. With a new Citroen supplied box that'll probably cost more than your Fiesta!

LOL.
