Hello, got 406 hdi 110bhp 1999 reg, kicks out a fair bit white/grey smoke when accelerating, smoke appears around 2000rpm when the turbo starts. i'm not accelerating really hard - just driving normally. is it a big deal to get the turbo serviced and is it expensive? Also, mpg getting worse (air con is off). is this related?
thanks

You can't 'service' the turbo - if it's shot you will need to get an exchanger unit, then it will need fitting - and that's a bit of a chore on a 406. I doubt you will see much change out of £500. This doesn't really sound like a turbo fault to me, more like a problem with the MAF sensor or something. You might need to get the fault codes read to see if anything comes up.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

Thanks Richard, do you know if the fault codes are read as part of general service?
