Hi all, just bought a Toyota Picnic and thought I'd spend 10 minutes changing the stereo. 10 minutes turned into a couple of hours and I ended up wrecking the existing stereo trying to get the old one out.
It appears that there are two kind of plates which screw into the stereo at either side near the front and it looks as though the surrounding facia needs to come off to get a new stereo inside.
Also the wiring loom for my stereo does not match the one in the car.
Therefore I ask the following questions:
1. How does the facia around the stereo come off?
2. Can you get replacement plates that screw stereo into place?
3. Will a new wiring loom be expensive?
Thanks for all your help being unfamiliar with the car and the dark weather wasn't very helpful to me!

Right, figured out how the facia comes off and have unscrewed the holding brackets, sadly the holes on the brackets do not match up on my sony cd player.
My new question is does anyone know where I can find a list of compatable stereos please?

Talk to an audio specialist or even some halfords type staff. (some do their business; some dont!)
Sounds like you need a new mounting cage, or carrier, a wiring adaptor and away you should go.

Thanks, having worked for Halfords over a decade ago I'm a little wary of them, although some of their staff do know their stuff.
Thanks for the advice will ask around.

The stereo WILL mount on the original LH & RH plates that screw in the sides of the original stereo. You will have to remove the plastic front trim panel from the Sony stereo. You will need an adaptor wiring loom costing around £15 from Halfords, Motorworld etc.

The sony cd player I took out of my previous car does not have holes in the side to match the brackets.
I know now I need to take the facia surround off but my problem is the brackets do not match up with the holes on the stereo!

That must be quite an old Sony. Most new branded stereos are side mountable - a much more secure fitting method that the DIN fit and rubber alignment system that we have in Europe.

Thanks, yes when you know about the system is very good lol
And yes the sony stereo is quite an old one, shame I mangled the tape deck, got no stereo at all at the mo!
Thanks for your help
